Fundamentals and Life Skills Summer Camps 

Academics In Motion and Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. are happy to announce an exciting camp opportunity for boys and girls entering 3rd to 8th grades who are interested in sports. The Fundamentals & Life Skills Sports Camps are a unique opportunity for students who want to combine football and basketball practice with team building and life skills instruction. Both sports camps are being offered free of charge. 


Two sessions of the Fundamentals & Life Skills Sports Camp are being offered. Students can participate in both sessions. The sessions are as follows: 
 
Session 1 – Football Camp will be held Monday, August 3rd to Tuesday, August 4th, from 9 am to 1 pm in Essex County Irvington Park, located at the intersection of Grove Street and Lyons Avenue in Irvington. A maximum of 75 athletes will be able to participate.
 
Session 2 – Basketball Camp will be held Saturday, August 29th to Sunday, Aug. 30th from 9 am to 1 pm in Essex County Watsessing Park at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Dodd Street in East Orange. A maximum of 50 athletes will be able to participate.
 
The football and basketball programs include:

Summercamps
  • stretching
  • agility workouts
  • ffensive and defensive training with high school coaches
  • simulated games.

Life skills instruction will include:

  • discussions about time management
  • gang prevention
  • study skills
  • character development and etiquette

The program will also have guest speakers and daily awards presented to players who work hard and show the most improvement. Student athletes who participate should wear sneakers and gym clothing, and bring water bottles for breaks.
